Highlight Reels & College Recruiting Videos
It's amazing that so many players and parents overlook the importance of a highlight reel.
If you want to position your son or daughter to get evaluated by a large number of schools, a highlight reel is one of the best things you can do to gain the attention of coaches.
As sports continue to grow throughout the country and the level of play increases due to players starting younger, more established club programs, better High School coaches etc., college coaches continue to be overwhelmed by the amount of candidates that are interested in their schools. As we often describe the current recruiting conundrum, it is like an enormous funnel that keeps getting larger at the top with the same size hole at the bottom.
Therefore, to increase your odds, you need to take a proactive role in your own recruiting process. Instead of hoping the above situation happens, players need to take initiative and show coaches why they should consider you. You do this with video. Coaches can evaluate a player and determine what level someone is in 4-6 minutes. Is the recruit athletic, skilled, smart and aggressive? You have to remember that college coaches are professional evaluators. Evaluating and recruiting players is how coaches build stronger programs, which is part of their job description. They are not making scholarship decisions strictly based on 4-6 minutes worth of clips, but they will be able to determine if a recruit is a potential fit for their program. 100% of the time, a player will not be recruited if that coach does not know they exist. So do yourself a favor by making it as easy as possible for coaches to SEE you play!
To make a college team, student athletes have to promote and market themselves to college coaches.
Introducing yourself to a college coach can be intimidating. But here’s an amazing fact: they want to hear from you. When student athletes introduce themselves, they make a college coach’s job easier. It’s not enough to just introduce yourself to college coaches. Instead, these students’ athletes need to continue to communicate with them on a regular basis. To make a college team, you have to convince college coaches to see you play or to go and work out in front of them. The goal of recruiting is simple: you want a spot on a college roster, while receiving a degree.
The recruiting process is starting earlier and earlier sometimes at the junior high school level. This process is often overlooked and misunderstood.
Student Athlete recruiting is a process. Even those 5 star prospects are marketing themselves to colleges and universities. After numerous survey and interviews with College Coaches and College administrators, they are saying that high school student athletes and their families are not prepared to effectively go through the recruiting process.
Colleges do not have the budget they used to have to go and recruit student athletes like they used to. If you are not actively receiving phone calls, questionnaires, letters, or emails by your junior year, then chances are you are under the radar and are not being recruited. It can never be too early, but it can be too late to get recruited.
Recruiting is no different than your parents looking for a job. They have to prove and provide their qualifications while marketing themselves to these companies just like you would to a college or university. Remember this is a once in a life time opportunity were you don’t get a second chance. Have a plan and you need to be extremely proactive in your recruiting plan as well as the process.
For the high school athlete who wants to play college sports and have an opportunity for a college scholarship, he or she is now often turning to an expert for help. College scholarships are not easy to get and high school athletes who are considered college prospects are finding that a recruiting service is more help than a coach, parent or friends.
The purpose of The Highlight Reel is to provide student athletes and their families with the opportunity to showcase their academic and athletic abilities and accomplishments to a vast number of institutions with professionalism and convenience while guiding these students through this life changing process.
